The Gigante Chicas play El Coyo in the rain. The girls have a chance to win it all this year, and if you've ever been to a game, then you have seen the charisma and perserverence of these players. They represent some of the most well put together, motivated, talented and educated women in the area, and you probably kn...ow several of them. As we all know, baseball is a huge deal in Nicaragua, and the games in and around Gigante are no different. It brings the whole town together in a safe, fun, spirited way and boosts moral and comradery in the locals. If you haven't been to a game, I highly recommend it. The team itself, as you can imagine, is quite economically challenged. Only a couple of the girls have suitable uniforms (all the other teams have them) and everyone else wears their street clothes. Most girls play in dress shoes, if any shoes at all. They borrow mitts from the guys team and even some of those are worn through. They use rice bags for bases and there are only two bats and a limited number of balls. They also can barely afford to pay the umpires and most times have to walk upwards of 7 km to get to the games. Here's where your help comes in. The girls would be highly gracious to accept any donations to the team. Even buys a new ball or pays transportation for 3 players.
